Route 66 is the highway of America, the old mother road.  One of the first interstate highways that crossed the country from California to Chicago back in 1926, covering eight states and nearly 2400 miles of highway.  The road today has many bypasses due to the need of high traffic freeways but the old flavor of American's first highway still remains.

It's not difficult to find the road.  In 1995, 600 additional signs designating historic route 66 were erected on the highway, and staying on it is not difficult.  You'll find no trucks or noise but beautiful views of the desert, hills, mountains and old stores full of relics such as Hackberry General Store in Arizona.  Walking in is like stepping into a different era, a walk into the past, a museum where everything is for sale, except the statue of Elvis that still sings.
